The Inuit Tribe
Inuit Tribes in Greenland, Canada and United States of America
The Inuit tribe are indigenous people that live in the arctic regions of Greenland, Canada and USA. They speak Eskimo-Aleut family languages. The Inuit Tribe consists of two kinds of people; the Yupiks and the Inupiat people. Together they are classified as "Inuit". Most of the origins of Inuit people come from Canada. Now there is only 150,000 Inuits left and a significant amount of them live in Greenland and Nunavut.
What does this have to do with their art?
Finding a correlation between the Inuits and their art isn't very difficult. Their lifestyles can be found transcript onto canvas or sculptures. Most of the Inuit beliefs are displayed through their art such as their "Sprit Belief". The Inuit people thought that by relating to their ancestors and animals, they could see the sprits. These visual spirits were called "Aurora" and they were seen in the dark skies near Greenland where it was thought to be their ancestor's spirits.
Special Buildings
A very well known building in the Arctic regions are the "Igloos". These structures first grabbed lots of attention due to its unorthodox shape and stability. You could live inside a igloo and it would keep you warm even when outside, it was negative. These buildings are examples of special and unique Inuit art. Although it isn't classified as a certain type of art, it is a significant part of art and could be used very efficiently. These were simple to build and in the winter, while other tribes were building sod houses, Inuits would simply build an Igloo and keep warm all year long.
This is a short musical tribute to Inuit art. This youtube clip shows couple Inuit art examples and matches it with the background music. Enjoy (:
